Black Daughter of 2 Champions!

This typey, solid black daughter of brown halter Champion, Holly Hawk, and silver grey Champion, Ben MacDhui, arrived on May 20th, 2008. Meliora is the second black daughter Dhui produced for us this Spring and her half sister is already sold, at less than 6 months of age. We held Meli back, and offered her dam for sale, but have now decided to offer either Mel or her Champion dam for sale, but not both!
The name Meliora is derived from the Latin "melior", meaning "better", and is also a name strongly associated with Cornwall, where there is a church named after St. Meliorius. This little lady is a bright and playful character, with excellent coverage, lovely square conformation and wonderful staple length. Meliora certainly has "the look", and is like a miniature black version of her sire with a face like a teddy bear.
We had originally planned to keep Meliora for our foundation herd, and sell her Champion dam, Holly, but took Holly off our sales list until she produced her May 2009 cria.
July 2009 Update: Holly produced a stunning rose grey female, Heather, from her breeding with Nikos, so we bred her straight back to him for her 2010 cria and are still not sure about selling her. Meli is developing into a typey, crimpey, dense female, with a beautiful head and wonderful trusting, mellow temperament. Her price has now been increased to reflect her true value, and the fact that she will be bred with Nikos this Fall. Should be an awesome match, given Meli's grey genetics from her sire, and the outstanding quality of her maternal half-sister, Heather. Meli is the only daughter of our silver grey Champion, Ben MacDhui, that we have ever managed to keep, in the 9 years we have owned him, so as she approaches breeding age, we are becoming more and more reluctant to part with her!
