A son of Hemingway AND a Macarena, makes him a full brother to Marcie, and Predictor. Handsome had a 16.0 micron at eight months of age and holds this fine, dense, consistant coverage today from head to toe. He is now seven years old and his average fiber diameter was still just 21 microns. In the fall of 2003 Mike and Robin Tierney showed his fleece at the Empire Alpaca Extravaganza show and at 44 months of age he won First place, Judges choice, Best Hand and Color Champion.
We feel he goes beyond the chip off the old block. If you are looking for fineness and quality of fiber and perfect conformation that will hold over time, we suggest his genetics in your breeding program. It works for us!

Sire - Bravado. Of 10 cias, PPeruvian Macarena had four sired by Hemingway: NWA,Ltd Marcie, dam of our Bravado; NWA,Ltd Predictor; NWA,Ltd Handsome; and NWA,Ltd Hektor. The quality of the Hemingway X Macarena cross is the reason we added Hibernia to our breeding program.
Dam - Coleen had four crias by PPeruvian Guellermo - all fawn - for Alpacas of Canada, and one white by Hektor before coming to Sixth Day Farm. She gave us white crias by Bravado, Handsome, and Mister Maverick.
Coleen was imported from Bolivia in 1998 at an estimated age of four years. It would be nice if there was more information available on the Bolivian imports, since overall they seem to be a very good group of alpacas.

2007 - Handy Hannah (by Handsome) 'Uncle to neice' matings were preferred by many of the master breeders of the past, and still are today. This pedigree was designed to concentrate the influence of Hemingway AND Macarena. Hannah's 2009 histogram tells us that it worked: FD-19.2 SD-5.3 SD-27.6 %>30-3.8 Curve-54.4 What does not show is the fact that Hannah's primaries are much finer than most! Certified Sorted(TM) by Carrie Hull 2009: 6.9lbs GRADE-1!
2008 - Harriet (by Salute) Another beautifully linebred alpaca, the result of breeding a Hemingway grandson to a Hemingway granddaughter, bred to STAY fine. 2009: FD-18.7 SD-4.6 CV24.7 %>30-2.1
2009 - Highlife (by Liberty) A very fancy female, the result of crossing Accoyo Felix with Alianza Hemingway lines, and a touch of Bolivian. This one is a winner. And for you color afficionados, 'Highlife' has a large fawn patch.
We would like to keep at least one of Hibernia's daughters to carry on our linebreeding program, and can let this pretty Hemingway granddaughter go to a breeder who prefers outcrossing.<--description-->
Description
At Sixth Day Farm, we have studied and applied the science of inheritence - genetics - to the acheivement of our goals: a herd of white alpacas that produce abundant quanitites of high textile value fiber: fine, uniform, bright, and with a silk-like feel.
In addition to tools like genetic indexes or 'EPD's', skin biopsy evaluation, and histograms, we have also studied and learned from the great breeders who created breeds and significant strains within their chosen breeds.
One tool widely used by plant and animal breeders whenever and wherever selective breeding was practiced is the crossing of related individuals, through linebreeding, or even inbreeding. We will not attempt to persuade those who are not comfortable with these breeding systems, but are confident that these carefully bred animals will prove the wisdom of this approach.
The pedigree of Hannah's 2011 cria will have three crosses to Hemingway, AND three crosses to PPeruvian Macarena. This pedigree is designed to concentrate the genetic influence of those two great individuals, while diluting the relative influence of each of their progeny - all full brothers - that appear in this pedigree: NWA,Ltd Predictor; NWA,Ltd Handsome, and NWA,Ltd Hektor.
It takes years of work to put together a pedigree like this, and we are confident that the results will be worth it!

Bolero was a complete outcross for Hannah, but still 'doubling up' on the fine, DENSE, crimpy, fleeces we like - fleeces with lasting fineness.
