Snowmass Matrix is truly one in a million. The fact is this stud has the Premier genetics for high curvature and ultimate fineness. He is a compact robust and well proportioned stud, perfect overall score in frame, bite, body, and reproductive anatomy. He has a fleece that extends its superior qualities over his entire frame. Matrix has what we call a Merino x Vicuna style of crimp. I never dreamed I'd have as fine a female as Poseidon's Accoyo Gabriella, but at the 2008 AOBA auction I took a deep breath and BID!! We knew we were taking advantage of the recession to be able to buy her, and we have never regretted that decision. Gabby is a compact to average sized female with strong fawn Accoyo genetics. She's a great mother, and her fawn bloodlines paid off with a light fawn male cria by Matrix in 2013! You can see that she did well in the shows, with a blue ribbon from a large class at the GWAS, and a RC at the AlpacaFest West. She has a pronounced, high amplitude crimp from her Poseidon/Caligula ancestors, and a cute conformation as well. She's been a devoted mother to her crias (even letting other crias nurse off her). We have only bred her to the best we could afford--Royal Fawn (we won the Alpaca Research Foundation raffle), and Matrix (a rare breeding purchased at the IAO herdsire auction). Gabby is bred to our top 1%EPD/IAO Champion fleece/1st place Get of Sire male, Accoyo America Tempest--a Hemi-Accoyo Nautilus son, to bring extreme fineness and knock-out density to her cria. This should be an outstanding cria! A note of caution--I have learned from Gabby that there is a reason that an alpaca is named, "Gabriella" or "Gabby". Our Gabby is a "squealer"--she's docile and is easy to handle, but she is VERY "chatty"! Gabby has moved to our ranch in the North San Francisco Bay area. She's lovin' the cooler summer days!

Unbeatable Genetics!

Description

The stars aligned just right, and Lord of Sipan was the result. We happened to have our full-Accoyo Poseidon daughter (with fawn genetics) in Virginia, at Double O Good Alpacas (home of Matrix), to deliver her cria by Royal Fawn. So, when I saw that a rare Matrix breeding was donated to the International Alpaca Odyssey in California, I bid to win! Sipan arrived 12 months later--born at Derwydd Alpacas, he was instantly a favorite of Jan Davis (who knew a thing or two about alpacas). She loved his bright, bright fawn bundles and beautiful crimp style. Sipan has matured to resemble his sire, Snowmass Matrix (you know--the highest selling alpaca EVER at $675K!) in fleece style, conformation and temperament. He is a very compact male, but perfectly conformed according to the judge at AlpacaFest West in 2015, who awarded him a blue ribbon. It's impressive that a compact male would place in the top 1% to 5% EPD for Fleece weight, but he consistently does! That is evidence of his great density and long staple length. In 2019 he sheared more than 11% of his body weight, and the same is true for his son, Mas Snowmas. So, at age 7 (102 months), we decided to get a skin biopsy from Ian Watt (drumroll, please!): Density: 73.8/mm Secondary:Primary ratio: 10.1 :1 Primary fiber diameter 23.2 (SD 3.0) Secondary fiber diameter 20.9 (SD 3.1) Comment: "Good density and excellent uniformity both between and within each fibre population. These are good numbers for a male of this age and, importantly, color..." An outstanding fiber artist with a wealth of experience with various fibers said of Sipan's fleece, "This is the most INCREDIBLE FIBER I have ever worked with!" She went on to rave about how it is finer and has a better handle than angora rabbit, etc... This is rare praise, indeed! Sipan has 5 crias born in South Carolina--2 are GREY!!. And check out his son for us, Mas Snowmas--winner of a blue ribbon at the AOA National Fleece show, and Champion fleece at the Gold Country Gathering. His skin biopsy will be done in Spring, 2022.
