PLEASE NOTE: In respect of our partners, depending where our retirement herd ends up when sold, Tuscan Black may or may not be a negotiable part of the package. We don't want to sell our half interest off the mainland US. AROSA Tuscan Black was bred by Don and Carolyn Marquette of The Alpaca Rosa. When they offered half interest for sale, we bought that half in spite of owning the sire, understanding the genetic powerhouse his pedigree held. His dam is a Canadian bred medium brown Futurity champion and champion producer. Jim Stark proclamied Crystal as the best brown female alpaca he had ever seen. On her first breeding to Tuscan Gold, she produced true black AROSA Dazzlyn who was bought by Irish Meadows Alpacas sight unseen based on a fleece picture we had forwarded to them from Don Marquette. Dazzlyn was still a cria at side at the time. She went on to win at least 7 championships for Irish Meadows. Because of Dazzlyn, Crystal was rebred to Tuscan Gold and produced Tuscan Black. He also exhibits phenomenal fleece and has placed in the ribbons at the shows. However, his show career was cut short due to an injury. Tuscan Black is showing his prepotency through his first crias who have hit the ground in 2012. The Alpaca Rosa has true black Piper's Sniper with amazing fleece (see photos), a Marquette client has Jakota, already a multichampion as a juvenile, and we have had a handful of Tuscan Black crias, most notably Black Lace, an amazing low 16 micron as a 9-month-old with beautifully bright, crimpy fleece that earned her a second place at the 2015 Futurity under judge Amanda Vandenbosch. The next Tuscan Gold generation has arrived - in a big way, and Tuscan Black is one of those top herdsire sons of Tuscan Gold. We are so excited to see the excellence extending through the generations. Depending on where we sell our retirement herd, our half interest in Tuscan Black is negotiable. For more offspring, see our Tuscan Black partners', The Alpacarosa, page on Open Herd.

Dam: Cocoa Puffe

Senior dam of color at Bella Vita Ranch

Cocoa Puffe

HuacayaBred (Female)Light Brown
AOA# 821850DOB: 7/14/200024 yrs
What a great producer this gal has been! She is of Australian/Chilean lineage, and she has produced multiple blue ribbon and color champion crias for us, many of whom remain here at Bella Vita for their genetic excellence. They have been a big part of our foundation herd. Cocoa Puffe has produced several silky style huacayas for us - Black Silk, Prosecco, and Perfect Storm, to name a few. We look so forward to her babies every year because they are so very stellar. We paid $16,000 for Chocolat when we first started in alpacas and have kept almost every one of her crias in our herd as foundation stock, and have sold her grandbabies and 1/2 interest in Prosecco and Corazon for sales of approximately $90,000 back to the ranch, so I think she has more than paid for herself. We have not seen Cocoa Puffe's pedigree in any other alpacas in the US (there may be a few, but they would be very rare), and Cocoa Puffe was a maiden when she came to us, pregnant with her first cria (Chocolat). She would be one we would have considered harvesting eggs from for IVF were it readily available and at a younger age for her. Cocoa Puffe produces crias who exhibit strong bone, complete fleece coverage that is dense, crimpy and fine. She had produced several black cria. Cocoa Puffe herself is light brown with black points and covered head to toes in dense fleece. She has a very laid back personality and is easy to handle. She is currently bred to Semper Fi for a June 2016 cria. Although she is an older female, she is still very healthy and reproductively sound.

Description

This boy was a stunner from the moment he hit the ground. He is out of our top color producing foundation female, Cocoa Puffe, who has produced multiple champion and blue ribbon crias for us by different herdsires. Her match up with Tuscan Black has produced a bay black male, with shiny, crimpy fleece, characteristic of the Tuscan Black crias who have been produced thus far. Tuscan Black is quickly establishing himself as a prepotent herdsire for crias of color with bright, dense and crimpy show quality fleece. Rastafari has strong bone, a beautiful head, good conformation and had straight legs. However, he did develop ricketts and has been treated with vitamin D, but he does have some slight deviation at his knees due to the ricketts. That has shortened his halter show career, but his fleece remains stellar with an AFD of 14.5 and SD of 3.4 (comfort factor 100%) at 2 years of age! Cocoa Puffe has produced other quality hersdires for us, including 8x champion El Corazon, champion Perfect Storm, and champion Prosecco. Her daughters are equally impressive - Bella Chocolat, Chia Pet, just to name a couple who have remained in our foundation herd. Rastafari's sire, AROSA Tuscan Black, is by our 5x champion Sunny Mesa's Tuscan Gold and out of Futurity champion Qolmesa Crystal. Tuscan Black's full sister is 7x champion AROSA Dazzlyn. Now, how can you go wrong with this lineup? This male is tentatively offered for sale but he may remain in our herd here at Bella Vita. Best to catch us while we are hesitating. So stunning was this result that both Cocoa Puffe and her daughter, true black Bella Chocolat, were bred to Tuscan Black for 2014 crias.

Awards
