We are very excited to introduce Snowmass Royal Pacuna who is the son of Snowmass Royal Challenger and Snowmass Quecha's Vicuna. He was on the Snowmass show string and did very well. He placed third in Futurity (behind Snowmass animals) as a juvenile and yearling! He placed 2nd (behind Snowmass as well) at the IAO as an adult. His Dam is Quechua’s Vicuna one of Snowmass's only direct colored Quechua daughters and is stunning!
His sire is Royal Challenger - no more needs to be said! Snowmass Royal Challenger, the 2004 Futurity Color Champion, has proven himself by producing the next generation of elite colored huacaya alpacas. He is the son of Snowmass Royal Rose, one of the top Studs from the North American Alpaca Stud Group, Royal Challenger hails from a long line of “greats” including Hemingway and Bueno. Challenger’s dam, PPPeruvian Edelweis is a grand dam in her own right- a long time producer of champions. Royal Challenger consistently passes on his superior phenotype and fleece attributes to his offspring - superb conformation, awesome coverage, fineness, high-frequency style crimp, long staple length and beautiful brightness.
Royal Pacuna's fleece is glorious and shows fineness and consistency. Add to that perfect conformation and stunning prescence and we have an all around elite package! Book your breeding today as they are limited!

Description
Cobalt is one of those "meant to be" alpacas for our herd. I had long admired him on the website of his breeder, Aspen Alpacas, but when he first went up for online auction I had not yet purchased any alpacas sight-unseen -- and of course, he was on the other side of the country. He was beloved by his new owners, so, for awhile, he was one of the ones that got away.
Fast-forward three years later, and who did I see on auction again but this dude: his new owners were moving to a new farm, and, sadly, had to sell their herd. I didn't hesitate this time, and Cobalt -- now a proven stud -- came to join our farm.
... And what a great fit he is, too. His pedigree, for one thing, is a super-unique blend of several of our favorite bloodlines that aren't often found together. His sire, Snowmass Royal Pacuna, is a son of the renowned Snowmass Royal Challenger and out of a daughter of the incomparable Snowmass Quechua, an impact white herdsire that our herd, frankly, really can't get enough of. His dam sire is Onxy's Grey Navigator, an absolutely gorgeous son of famed Harlequin Appaloosa-maker Aussie Rockford. Cobalt's sire Pacuna is himself a champion, and his dam, Quiet Storm, is such an impressive animal that she was chosen by a German Appaloosa breeder for export to their elite herd.
Blending two very disparate bloodlines sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. In this case, it clearly worked. Cobalt displays so many of the traits that we breed for here: he is compact, short and stocky, with superlative conformation and very square proportions. His bone substance is excellent -- very thick and solid, particularly for his height -- and he is a muscular animal for his frame. His breed type is excellent, with full coverage and a beautiful head.
What is really striking, though, are his fleece characteristics. Cobalt displays an exceptional combination of fineness (16.1 AFD on his first fleece; 19.6 on his second) with remarkable density. He will most likely be biopsied in 2018. His fleece exhibits a very well-defined, high-frequency crimp with great brightness. All of his fiber traits remind me much more strongly of my elite light Quechua descendents than most of the true blacks I have come across.
All of this in a package with a heck of a personality! Cobalt is a gentle sweetheart who loves people, but he also loves to breed. It's a great combination of traits to have in a breeding stud!
Cobalt is proven, with a true black daughter (no white on her). This year, he is being bred to some of our best Harlequin Appaloosas. Stay tuned ...
