Matrix has what we call a Merino x Vicuna style of crimp. He has a bit more organization in the expression of crimp than a true vicuna but a very high frequency of crimp indicative in the vicuna qualities. Most importantly this stud exhibits an extreme fineness, brightness, and consistency of fineness which is seen in the extension into extremities(hip, belly, shoulder neck and head). He has held these qualities as he has aged which is exactly what we are looking and breeding for. Shasta displays excellent uniformity of micron throughout. Her first histogram, at 11 months of age, came back at 14.4 microns with an SD of 3.4. She has very good density as well, culminating in a well organized fleece. Shasta, like her dam, Amelia Suave, has excellent fineness, as is standard in the Rico Suave line. She was an excellent foundation female. Unfortunately, she developed mastitis a few, and I missed it until it was too late. She is now an ET Donor, only, as she cannot support a cria.

Malibu has been used sparingly, here at Sopris. Given what he is producing, he will be our main herdsire for the 2023 breeding season. He's stamping out his head type, fineness, density along with exquisite brightness and his calm, friendly demeanor, in virtually every cria to date.
