Jet Stream Daughter!

DD Jet Stream's Peruvian B'Dazzled

Wow! B'Dazzled is truly outstanding- correct conformation is a always given but it is her incredibly dense, independently locked and fine fleece that set her apart. She only showed a few times herself but the proof is in the progeny-- so far she has produced three outstanding cria out of three different males and each one is better than the last. B'Dazzled gave birth to her first cria out of Pucara's Kahuna. She is a large boned female with a proud bearing. Her locks and luster are dazzling. She took 2nd in a competitive white class at MAPACA. Her second daughter, Opalessence, was out of Hotazel and took Light Champion in her first and only show. Her latest offspring, Bronzed Bullett, is a gorgeous light brown boy out of Bronze Mahogany. Bullett took first place at Nationals and sold at less than a year old. B'Dazzled 2019 Cria LHSA Dazzlin' (Sired by Bronze Mahogany) is showing already her luster, Lock, & fineness. For those who appreciate skin biopsies- below is her information: 52.25 follicles/mm sq S/P Ratio-10.9 to 1 Level 3 of 4 Glands 50% secondary medullation 100 Secondary Fibers Averaged 19.1 microns 50 Secondary Fibers Averaged 25.9 microns Primary to Secondary Spread 6.8 microns A thought about density- Over the past several years, we have learned that perception of density is deceiving. We have found that the alpacas we (and the judges) believe are dense are actually not. Instead, most of them have a wider micron spread between the secondary and primary fibers. This variation seems to give a false perception of density. According to the biopsies we have seen, the densest alpacas on our farm are turning out to be those who have a very smooth and slippery feel but don't necessarily "feel" dense. We have had the majority of alpacas on our farm biopsied after they reached maturity and have found that the very densest alpacas are never those that we (or the judges) thought were dense. Something to keep in mind when you're trying to make sense of density claims.
