We weren't even looking to purchase another herdsire when we saw Shanghai. He looked terrific from far away in the field. We then got up close and put our hands on him and were in awe of the density, fineness and soft handle of his fiber. We learned he is a Caligula grandson and an El Patron son, we then knew that he had to go home with us. Mary (Mary's Alpacas) said, "Shanghai had never been shown because of all the males born during that period. I'm sure he would have done well." The decision to add him to our herd was confirmed at both the 2006 Virginia Classic and the 2006 MAPACA Jubilee. In these shows he placed 2nd against many animals much younger than himself. The judges loved his conformation and couldn't believe how soft and dense his fiber was at age 7. They told the audience that breeding for fiber longevity and lingering fineness should be the goal of every alpaca breeder. We are so proud to tell people he belongs to us. He is now retired from the show ring and focuses on breeding. (He is especially good with maiden females.) Shanghai has 23 ARI registered offspring. Of these, 13 are females. Several of his female offspring have been added to our foundation herd due to their beautiful conformation and fiber. (All IGGs were over 2000.) Gibson Cloud's Herdsire is the high in demand Emerald Farm's Orlando Cloud. Orlando offspring were first shown in 2008, and to date they have won over 80 Color Championships/ Reserve Championships, and over 150 Blue Ribbons! His Stud fee is currently $5000. We are very proud to be the owners of Orlando Gibson Cloud. The moment we saw him at one of the shows in 2012 we knew we had to own him. He is everything we were looking for in a Rose Gray. His confirmation is spot on, with thick soft bundles that cover his entire frame from head to toe. We fell in love with the Modern Rose Gray and is our favorite color of all.
